Award for CREATIVE DANCE.

Works regularly with The ACTION PLAYERS, a group of Deaf Actors in
Calcutta.
Invited to Perform in the Purush Festival, Bhopal, along side The Great
Gurus of the Indian Classical Dance Styles.
Performed at the fiftieth anniversary of the American Dance Festival in
Durham North Carolina, Spolet Festival, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Commissioned by Pierre Cardin to choreograph a dance for Maia
Plissetskaia - prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Ballet.
Selected to compete in the International Choreographers
Competition,Bangnolet, France.
Given command performance for the royal families of Japan and /
Thailand.
Filmed by Channel Four of London for his innovative works.

Performed with Pink Floyd at the Chelsea Town Hall, London.
Broke with tradition when he was invited to perform at the Elephanta and
Khajuraho Dance Festival. This was the first time that a contemporary
dancer had been awarded this honor.
UPDATE:
Besides working with the deaf in India and USA Astad has been invited to conduct workshops for the deaf in
Mexico by the Mexican deaf theatre company Sena Y Verbo and also for the Hong Kong deaf theatre company. He
has just collaborated with British composer Francis
Silkstone and singer Amella Cuni for the production of trying Orpheus which was premiered in Winchester on
the 30th January 2002.
In 2000 Astad was invited by Danny Yung to create a work using one table two chairs. Astad was one of the
12 Asians performing artist commissioned to create this piece and then he went along to perform at the
house of cultures in Berlin for the festival of visions.
Astad was also commissioned to create a work video circle performance in which there was a video created
for the duration of 20 minutes and the dancer performed either outside the circle or inside.
This work was premiered in Hong Kong and then later performed in Berlin.
Astad after the USA tour will be in the International Dance Festival in Dusseldorf.
For deaf way 11 he has created two new works with the deaf one titled
'Circle of Feelings' and the other is 'First Step.'
He is presently working with the drummers of Manipur which will be performed in the Festival of
India in Indonesia in October 2002.
